It's just like home.
I didn't think I'd miss it like this. If you spend ten years building sandcastles and cracking coconuts, it gets kind of boring.
Now I'm here, and it's fun. But still exactly the same.
I don't want to stay. I know some of you do, but nothing ever changes in a place like this. And it's not home, not without the people who make home special.
I guess this place has reminded me that even if I could go back, there's only sandcastles and coconuts waiting there for me.
And if the Elegante is the only way forward then, no matter how bad it gets, I'll take it.
[Kairi is at the cove, ankle-deep in the surf. She's watching something bob out over the waves as she writes. When it disappears, she turns away and begins walking along the beach. She picks up and pockets seashells as she goes.]

[Though reading it over now, she realizes that it does.]
I just felt like writing for a change.

[And she laughs. Because has she been anywhere else - when not eating or sleeping - this whole time? No.]

H-Hey!

Hey! What happened to you?
[She says it with a smile. After all, he looks okay.]
Picking fights again?

H-Haha, n-no, uh, I just-- I-I, uh, f-fell out of bed a-and hit myself o-on, uhm, the-- the s-side table. S-Stupid, right?

Does that always happen when you've been at sea for a while? I couldn't sleep the first night we were here because we weren't - you know - moving.
[And she mocks the swaying of a ship.]

I know the Captain's magic is what's keeping us here. But even if he was gone, we still couldn't leave. Heh, not unless you know how to open portals between worlds.
Anyway, you still have some freedom.
no subject
I be held in a place dat I don't wanna be 'gainst my will wid no way to leave. Dat don't sound like freedom to me. It be soundin' like a prison.
Just because joo be shuttin' joor eyes to it don't mean it ain't be true.

But I know that this - all of this - isn't my world. I know that to travel to a different world, I need magic or a rocket ship. Getting rid of the Captain won't give me those things. I'd still be in a place I didn't want to be with no way to leave.
I hope someone finds another way to travel between worlds. But until they do, I'll make the most out of what's here.

So ... I take it you're from an island back home? What ... are your friends like?
no subject
Heh, well my friends aren't made of stone like the locals here. They're a lot like some people on board sometimes. They wanted to escape and find adventure and to see other worlds. And well, they did.

I don't think they wanted something better. Well, heh, maybe something more. Our world was pretty small.
But I came from somewhere else to start with, and it started them thinking about other worlds why we end up where we do.
[Her voice goes quieter, as though she's looking away from the communicator]
I don't think anyone looking for those kinds of answers would find them here though.

Really makes you appreciate home a bit more ...
no subject
Heh. I guess you're right. It really does.
Um... Have we spoken before?
[She doesn't think they have, but it's hard to tell over the communicator sometimes.]
I'm Kairi.
