Who said something about bass spawning soon?
[Kairi's voice sounds a little distant, and there's the lapping sound of water against a boat's side.]
Does anyone else know about - Oh! - About fishing in the cold? No, come back!
[She doesn't really have hands free to search the journal herself right now.]
It broke my line again.
[Kairi can be found out on the lake, piled under blankets, with a makeshift fishing pole and a bucket full of worms. She's caught a few weedy little things.
She wants to catch a big one!]

[Te Ata tucks her journal under her arm and heads into the boat house. Once she finds some more fishing wire, she's back outside and waits on the shore for Kairi.]
[commentlog]
Hello.
[She didn't really introduce herself before.]
I'm Kairi.
[commentlog]
It's nice to meet you. I'm Te Ata.
[She holds up the bundle of fishing wire she found.]
Now let's see if we can get that line to hold.
[commentlog]
[She makes room in the boat and watches Te Ata carefully. She'd already figured out that lake fishing wasn't the same as coastal reef fishing, and she didn't have the finer points figured out to catch things easily in winter.
But she was ready to learn!]
[commentlog]
She hands it back when she's finished.]
Try this. Hopefully this will work, it usually does for me.
[commentlog]
But first, she takes up an oar.]
The fish are only in the deep water. We'll need to row out.
[commentlog]
Hopefully we can catch something out here.
[commentlog]
[Kairi pulls in her oar and takes up the pole again, eyeing the line once more.]
Where did you learn how to fish?
[It didn't matter, it was just smalltalk.]
[commentlog]
[To be honest, they were all kind of weird.]
[commentlog]
[Well obviously. But what she meant was well... Was Te Ata's world small like her own?]
What was it like?
[commentlog]
[commentlog]
Do you think that would work here?
[commentlog]
It might. Most of the people I've met have been nice and seem willing to help when asked.
[commentlog]
[There would be more people to make clothes or food or catch fish...]
[commentlog]
[There were so few who knew how to do these things, maybe she'd at least find some who would be willing to learn.]
