lightwithin: (Simple and Clean)
Who said something about bass spawning soon?

[Kairi's voice sounds a little distant, and there's the lapping sound of water against a boat's side.]

Does anyone else know about - Oh! - About fishing in the cold? No, come back!

[She doesn't really have hands free to search the journal herself right now.]

It broke my line again.

[Kairi can be found out on the lake, piled under blankets, with a makeshift fishing pole and a bucket full of worms. She's caught a few weedy little things.

She wants to catch a big one!]
lightwithin: (The future doesn't scare me)
[She had meant to address this to someone, to ask for help, to do something more than complain.

But after a few seconds' silence, she doesn't know what to do besides just saying it.]

There are snakes on my head!

[Somebody woke up a gorgon this morning.]

And they bite.
lightwithin: (Birth by sleep)
So, suppose time works differently between here and other worlds.

Do you think we can change the things that happen there?

[That sounds silly, and she pauses as she tries to think of a way to explain.]

One of my friends doesn't remember some of the things that happened to him on our world. I mean, they haven't happened to him yet. Or they hadn't, before he got here.

And then, another friend met me on another world that I don't remember. I don't think I've been to that world before. Things happened there, to other people.

[Sora died.]

Do you think we can change our futures, even if other people already remember them happening?

[Text | Sealed to Riku and Xanth]

Meet me in the library? I want to find out about this, about time.

Bring snacks.
lightwithin: (Please don't go)
[Kairi stands for a long time on the bailey bridge, looking out at a specific point where a knot of pumpkins stand gathered on their posts. Then, her resolve strengthened, she flips open her journal and brushes the page with a fingertip before beginning to speak.]

Xanth?

Could I talk to you?

It's important.
lightwithin: (When you walk away)
Riku?

[She sounds hesitant, stops, and then speaks again with far more certainty.]

Come on, Riku. Answer me.

Me and Xanth have been looking for you for days.

If you don't answer me, I'm coming to find you.

[That's assuming, of course, that she can figure out a way to get the door open.]
lightwithin: (Regardless of warnings)
So, is there a doctor here?

I think I need some help.

[And she does not really want to elaborate.]
lightwithin: (You're home)
I'm going riding.

[Yes, her mind is made up.]

If anyone wants to come or ... Maybe could help me harness a horse, then meet me in the stables in half an hour.

[Of course, even though it's an open invitation, Kairi will be gathering up friends along the way.

And as promised, within the half hour, she's waiting in the stables, eye the stalls with the horses in them.]
lightwithin: (Default)
So, when do you suppose we can go outside again?

There are horses in the stables. I wanted to try riding this week.

When things do get better, is there anyone here who can teach me? Or - heh - is there anyone who'd like to come along?
lightwithin: (frown)
[Three hours after this post, there's a disgusted yelp from Kairi's room on Deck 7. Her comm clicks on with a burst of static as she tries to wipe her own sticky fingerprints away.]

- gross. It's sticking everywhere. Oh no, don't record...

Could the crew - whoever's in charge of that kind of thing - bring a clean bedspread to my room please? The other one has jello on it.

[That sounds wrong. She doesn't care. She turns the comm off again.

Have a Kairi, splattered with jello and petroleum. See, not only was she still wearing that singing macaroni necklace as an anklet, but she'd actually tried to collect more of the things.

She's taken off her shoes, but she's still leaving a trail of sticky jello footprints as she heads to deck 8 in search of clean clothes.

Come scold her, help her, or just point and laugh. It'll do wonders for her mood.
]
lightwithin: (Curious)
[Kairi's sitting on a branch that overhangs the pool on deck 3. She hesitates, and as though prompting her, the comm squirts water at her. It starts recording in time to catch her laughter.]

OK! I'm doing it!

Does anyone know where I can find shells on board? Or know anything about drying out nuts and seeds?

I like making charms and things out of them. Back home they're lucky for sailors and well, we are on a boat.

[She goes to close the connection, but then adds.]

Oh, and if anybody still has those pasta necklaces the Captain gave out and doesn't want them anymore, could I have them?

[If she can't find any good string, a good supply of dental floss would have to do.]
lightwithin: (dark)
[Kairi has been listening to the comm for a while now. Having awoken in a strange room, it took her a few minutes to remember the circumstances which must have brought her there. And now, with all the chatter about violence and sorrow, she’s certain; she’s not on her island any more.]

Um, hello?

What world is this?

Or is this a vessel that travels between worlds?

[It doesn’t look like a gummi ship. But then she knows as much about gummis as she does about this strange communication device.

There’s a pause and then a sigh. It can’t hurt to ask, can it?]

Sora? Riku? Are you here?
